Susana H’Ormaycht // Lima, Peru
Tucked away a few blocks west of the Miraflores (translation: Look at flowers!) district in Lima, this collection of strategically placed nooks in a wall called out to me, begging to hold the figure of a ballerina within its crevices. Facing the Pacific Ocean, these windows offer their owners a majestic view, down the street from one of my favorite ceviche joints in all the world, Punto Azul, the best cevichería in all of Peru.
I was introduced to Susana through a mutual family friend early on in this project. When I had the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu for pennies on the dollar, I made this an excuse to continue my Hasselblad Ballet project, and reached out to setup a shoot. Earlier that morning, I had a 6 hour overnight layover in Mexico City, photographed a ballerina in CDMX, and then caught my flight to Lima. After leaving customs, I had an overnight layover once more in Lima, and that is when had my opportunity to shoot with Susana.
Susana’s delicate pose is almost reminiscent of a doll placed gently within the confines of a doll house, a work of art on display.
